Portal of the Folded Wings Shrine to Aviation
If you live in Burbank and would like to know more of the history of Aviation in Burbank, you should stop by the Portal of the Folded Wings. It is located just south of the Airpot in the Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery. It was originally the entrance and the main offices of the Cemetery when ti first opened in 1924. It designed by Kenneth MacDonald Jr a well known San Francisco architect. It became an aviation shrine in 1953 on the 50th anniversary of the Wright Brothers flight at Kitty Hawk on December 17th 1903. It is only open 3 hours a month on the first sunday 1pm until 3pm, when the weather is not cold or rainy.
