Curiosity Killed the Cat

One of the items on tonights City Council meeting is very close to ours hearts hear at BurbankSoup.

Something very sad happened here in Burbank a few weeks ago. Sadly it occurs every day all over the country.

A few weeks ago 3 cats were killed while a home was being fumigated. Yes we are angry, yes we are sad, we are looking for blame. But there is no one to blame, except the cats. Can we try to prevent this from happening again? Can we protect our inquisitive kittens from such a horrible fate? Yes, yes we can, and yes we should.

We are proposing that Burbank require all fumigation companies to give neighboring residents 48 hours notice before fumigating with a lawn sign. A lawn sign would give cat owners, as well as the care takers of stray cats, notice to remove cats from the area and keep them safe. This idea was first proposed in L.A. in 2008, however, we cant seem to find out if it ever went through. No matter. Burbank is progressive and the catolist for animal rights. No doubt you’ll recall Burbank banned the declawing of animals just a few weeks ago.
We live in a town full of animal lovers and so far the response from City Council has been encouraging. What can you do? You want to help? Show up tonight at the city council meeting. If you can make a less than 5 minute speech, great. If not just show up. A full meeting room brings attention to the issue and lets council know we are serious.

Ban declawing cats In Burbank?

Hot topic at the The City Council meeting tonight. The council will vote on whether or not to allow declawing of cats in Burbank. Seven other California cities including West Hollywood, Santa Monica, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Berkeley and most recently Culver City have already banned declawing within their city limits. We would like to know what you think.

Zoe has been at the shelter for a long time and needs a home. In a few weeks she will have here 1 year anniversary at the shelter lets try to find here a home before then. The shelter thinks she is about 8. She is a spayed female, tan and white Korean Jindo and Alaskan Husky. Please tell your family and friends.

There was once a movie probably made right here in Burbank, about lots of little Dalmatians, that needed to escape the clutches of the villainess Cruella de Vil. This weeks dog is also a Dalmatian in need of help. He is a a neutered male, black and white Dalmatian named Dot. The shelter thinks he’s about 12 years old. He has been at the shelter since Mar 17, 2009. Please help get him a home, remember even if you can’t take him ask you friends, family or coworkers if they need an companion.

He is 2 years old and was turned in by his owners because like so many, they came upon hard times. As you can see he is very mellow, yet friendly. He doesn’t react to the other dogs barking around him, yet is very interested in all the human visitors. Oreo will make a great companion.

This little pit is so sweet…..she loves to be loved, watch her go into a little trance as I scratch her back through the bars of her kennel…she obviously had puppies recently…she needs a good home. She’s only about 40 pounds, perfect for an apartment. Give her a second chance. The shelter is calling her Sandy.

Thursday Movie Rental Review

I’ve rented quite a few good movies lately. And when I say “thoroughly enjoyed” I’m not exaggerating.

Wall-E
I’d forgotten how magical Disney movies were. This one had me at hello. It’s about a little robot who falls in love with another little robot. It’s got an environmental message and pokes fun at us fat, lazy humans in such a way that only Disney can do.
Anyone from 8 to 80 will thoroughly enjoy this movie.

The Duchess

This is a period film starring Keira Knightly and Ray Fienes. Ray Fienes was nominated for a Golden Globe for his portrayal of the heartless Duke. Keira Knightly is wonderful as the young, vibrant Gorgianna and as the older, stronger Duchess.This is a biography of Gorgianna Spencer, who marries into a loveless marriage and sacrifices everything for her children.I thoroughly felt her pain, and you will too.

Interestingly, Gorgianna Spencer is the Princess Diana Spencer’s great great aunt.

Burn After Reading

By the Cohen Brothers, so, as you would expect, a dark, intelligent, funny and well written drama. Starring Francis McDermott, Brad Pitt and John Malkovich-what more could you possibly ask for?

I can only assume that John Malkovich had it in his contract that he would not learn any lines because his only line is “what the f*ck” “what the f*ck over and over agin.

Otherwise, I enjoyed it.
